The Minister of the Environment is responsible for the issues regarding fire safety in Iceland. The Minister appoints the Director of the Iceland Fire Authority.
The Iceland Fire Authority Councel is a body of seven professionals, appointed by industry, local authorities, the insurance sector and professional societies. The main purpose of the Councel is to review regulations and guidelines under preparation and to advice the Director of the Iceland Fire Authority on various issues. The Minister of the Environment appoints the Chairman of the Iceland Fire Authority Councel.
The work at the Iceland Fire Authority is divided into a number of sectors. The main sectors are:
